WHO ARE YOU?
I'm Saejin (SAY jin). I live and work in Virginia Beach. I design web sites, play music and try to create art when time permits. My wife Jaimie, who is helps me with this site, is a writer.
WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS SITE?
When I hit the Stockley Gardens Art Show in Ghent a few years ago, I met an incredible artist. A few days later, I tried to find some more information about her on the internet. I came up empty. I assumed she was not very tech-savvy, or simply did not have the spare time (or money) to create any form of online presence. It was a shame because her work left a big impression on me. I eventually gave up trying to find her work online. And, now I can’t even remember her name.
The same thing has happened to me countless times with local bands. I'll see a band play in some hole in the wall downtown, and never hear of them again. But that's mainly my fault for getting too drunk to remember their name the next day.
So, out of my own selfishness and laziness (Googling is no fun for me anymore and neither is searching MySpace), I decided to create this site for local artists and musicians. And, since my wife has worked as a writer and composition instructor, she insisted that we include writer profiles and an area to submit all types of creative writing.
WHAT IS THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS SITE?
The main purpose of the site is to showcase underground bands, artists and writers in the area. The site should serve as both a database of local talent and a community forum for meet-n-greets, critiques, and advertising events in the area. Also we’d like to show newcomers to the area, people living outside Hampton Roads and current residents who are oblivious to the scene that there is a thriving creative community here.

WHAT IS THIS ARTICLE SUBMISSION THING?
Refer back to the second question regarding my laziness...
Seriously, there are plenty of local writers who have not published yet, but have something to say. We'd like to put your words on the site and allow you to get some feedback on your work. Rest assured, we want the feedback to be helpful, so no one’s going to assault your work (unless it’s done in a positive and upbeat way).
We have no desire to push an editorial agenda here. So, I do not want to be the sole person who decides what words get published on the site. I'll start a blog if I want to push my political beliefs on you. This site is all about the community, so I want the visitors to decide what gets showcased on our front page.
If you have something to say, submit your words to the site. Anything will be accepted (i.e. interviews, articles, essays, poems, editorials, short stories, etc.) and posted in our forum. Once posted, readers will be able to vote "yes" or "no" to your submission. At the end of each month, I'll choose the article with the highest votes and post it on the front page as a featured article.
WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?
Any form of writing on any subject, as long as it's your own work.
WHO CAN SUBMIT?
Anyone currently living in the Hampton Roads area (Chesapeake, Gloucester, Hampton, James City Co., Newport News, Norfolk, NE NC, Outer Banks, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Yorktown) may submit work.
HOW DO I VOTE FOR A SUBMITTED ARTICLE?
Just login to the forum. Once logged in, you will have the option to vote "yes" or "no" at the top of each article submission. You can only vote once.

WHO CAN SUBMIT A PROFILE?
Any band, artist or writer currently based in the Hampton Roads area (Chesapeake, Gloucester, Hampton, James City Co., Newport News, Norfolk, NE NC, Outer Banks, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Yorktown) may submit a profile.
HOW DO I SUBMIT MY PROFILE?
Choose the appropriate form on our submission page and fill out as much information as possible.
HOW DO I UPDATE MY INFORMATION?
To update your profile, just fill out a new form with only the updated info and put "UPDATE" before your name. For example, if your band name is "The Poops," fill out a new form with just the updated info and put "UPDATE - The Poops" in the name field.
Or, if it is just a simple change, you can email me at info@hrunderground.com and let me know what you want changed.
Eventually, we'll build dynamic capabilities into the site. But for now, everything is static.
ARE YOU GOING TO SELL MY INFO TO THIRD PARTIES?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. We will never sell your info to anyone. We will never infringe on any of your original works or copyrights. We will use your submitted information to create your hrunderground page and that's it.

THIS SITE LOOKS JACKED UP. WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT?
This site is still a work in progress. There are still quite a few bugs to iron out. But, everything should display fine if you are using a modern internet browser like Firefox or Safari. I suggest you use one of those. Also, some Mac users may not have a couple fonts used on this site (Trebuchet MS and Tahoma). So if you have a Mac without these fonts, download them here. Then just unzip, double click and you should be good to go.
